MORE than 800 patients were given free medical, dental, laboratory and optical services on Shell Tabangao Refinery’s Medical Mission.

Shell Tabangao Refinery continues to fulfill its commitment of addressing the medical needs of its fence-line communities benefitting more than 800 residents of Barangays Tabangao, Ambulong, Libjo, San Isidro and Malitam, commonly known as TALIM through a Medical Mission last September 1, 2018.

The medical mission is a semi-annual endeavor and one of the many social investment programs of the Refinery which aims to attend the medical needs and promote the health and general wellbeing of its neighboring communities.

Evangeline Mendoza, a 45-year-old resident from Brgy. Ambulong is one of the hundreds of beneficiaries who endured the huge volume of people just to avail the free medical services.

Marahil isa kami sa napakaraming residenteng taun-taong nag-aabang sa Medical Mission na handog ng Shell sapagkat wala naman kaming sapat na kakayahan upang makapagpatingin sa mga pampribadong ospital. (We are one of the many hopeful residents eagerly waiting for the Medical Mission hosted by Shell as we don’t have enough financial resources to have our selves checked by private hospitals”, Mendoza emphasized.

Grateful for Shell social development initiatives, she shared her greatest appreciation for the free medical services.

Ipinaabot namin ang aming taus-pusong pasasalamat sapagkat napakalaking tulong ang naibibigay ng Shell lalo sa aming mga kapus-palad at lubos na umaasang patuloy na isasagawa sa mga susunod pang taon. (We would like to send our sincerest thanks for this medical assistance especially for us, unprivileged ones and we are optimistic that Shell will continually roll this Medical Mission for the years to come”, she added.

The beneficiaries were attended by a total of more than 200 volunteers composed of doctors, nurses, dentists, medical technologists, pharmacists from various hospitals and medical organizations, PAF (Philippine Air Force) staff and volunteer staff and contractors across Shell businesses.

External Relations Manager Dar Guamos emphasizes the relevance of conducting the said mission for Shell communities.

“Every year, we can see the huge volume of residents who are availing the medical services which means that there is really a need to do this. These numbers has always been our motivation to continually address their fundamental needs and extend assistance the best way we could not only because they are our neighbors but as being part of the Shell family as well”.

“We have always believed on the idea that a healthy family is also a picture of a productive and well-rounded community. Through the help of these medical organizations, we are making sure that a healthy living is accessible and achievable by everyone”, he added.

This year, Shell Tabangao partnered with Batangas Crown Lions Club who provided eye check-up and free prescription glasses for kids. While Executive Optical provided 50 reading glasses for adults and the rest is from Shell. Moreover, the Malampaya Clinical Laboratory offered laboratory examinations like Complete Blood Count (CBC), Urinalysis and Fecalysis.

Philippine Air Force – Air Education & Training Center, Batangas City Health Office, Batangas Medical Society, Lipa Medical Society, Diabetes Philippines – Batangas Chapter, Philippine Academy of Family Physicians – Batangas Chapter, Institute of Diabetes Foundation – South Luzon, Batangas Medical Center, St. Patrick’s Hospital, Golden Gate General Hospital, Philippine Red Cross – Batangas Chapter, Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc., Malampaya Foundation Inc., Shell Tabangao Ladies Circle and Isla Gas Terminal, also rendered support services for the event.|#BALIKAS_News
