IN the midst of the lingering threat to public health, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte expresses his utmost gratitude to all the health professionals and frontliners who continuously provide basic services to the people amid the spread of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), in his message to the nation, Tuesday evening.

The Chief Executive made special mention to the doctors and other health personnel who have offered their lives in this war against the pandemic COVID-19 that has taken the lives of at least 35 Filipinos, not to mention the other cases that still have to be confirmed and to be included in the list of the Department of Health (DOH). Four Filipino doctors have died of COVID-19 while more hundreds more of health service frontliners are being either isolated in hospitals or in home quarantine as of this writing.

Against this backdrop, the Chief Executive assures the Filipino people that the government remains on top in safeguarding their protection and giving the security needed to respond to the challenges brought by the pandemic. He urges his ‘kababayans’ and the local government units (LGUs) to remain cooperative and to always follow the rules set by the national government.

President Duterte also thanked the Senate and House of Representatives for granting the Executive Department the special powers it needs to effectively respond to the COVID-19. The Congress has passed the Bayanihan to Heal As One Act that will pave the way to allow the government to use its resources immediately in responding to the needs for food, health supplies and other logistics in this war against COVID-19.

He then assured the public that the Filipino people have government to respond to their needs and deliver the country towards winning the world’s battle in the near future.
