The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) is set to lead the observance of the
23rd Depositor Protection and Awareness Week (DPAW) from June 16 to 22, 2025 with
the theme, “Bank Deposit Mo, MAS Protektado.”
DPAW has been declared by Presidential Proclamation No. 358 issued in 2003 as a yearly national observance to reaffirm the government’s efforts in strengthening depositor protection and sustaining economic growth.
Underscoring this year’s theme is the recent doubling of the maximum deposit insurance
coverage (MDIC) on March 15, 2025, from P500,000 to P1 million per depositor, per bank.
The adjustment in the MDIC testifies to the commitment of the PDIC to continuously
strengthen depositor protection and reinforce confidence in the Philippine banking system
to contribute to financial stability.
The latest amendments to the PDIC Charter approved in 2022 authorizes the PDIC to
increase the MDIC to an amount indexed to inflation or in consideration of other economic
indicators as may be deemed appropriate by the PDIC Board of Directors without the need for Congressional approval. The recent increase in the MDIC is the first time for the PDIC Board to exercise said authority.
The PDIC has sought the support of banks, bank groups, and other government agencies
to optimize public awareness of DPAW by way of sharing DPAW information materials in
their respective premises, ATMs, social media accounts, and other digital platforms. All
DPAW-related materials are available on the PDIC website at www.pdic.gov.ph/dpaw.
