THE first tranche of relief assistance from PLDT, Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), and PLDT-Smart Foundation (PSF) has arrived in Juban, Sorsogon making the PLDT Group the first responders from the private sector to have aided residents who were impacted by the eruption of Mt. Bulusan.

Guided by the PLDT Group’s core value of ‘malasakit’ or compassion, PLDT, Smart and PSF turned over 500 food packs and KN95 masks to evacuees staying at shelters in Barangays Bacolod and Buraburan in the town of Juban. This is the first wave of relief aid that the PLDT Group has lined up for the province as the volcano continues to threaten the southern tip of the Bicol region.

Alert Level 1 (Low-level unrest) remains in effect over the volcano after PHIVOLCS recorded 7 volcanic earthquakes and voluminous emission reaching 150 meters high in the past 24 hours. PHIVOLCS warns that sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions may occur in the next few days.

Earlier, PLDT and Smart have prepositioned personnel and mission-critical equipment in the province to ensure the resilience of their infrastructure and, if needed, quickly respond to service issues that may be affected by the activities of Mt. Bulusan.| – BNN
