BDO Unibank Inc. (BDO) received the Best Advance in Sustainability Practices Award at the 14th Annual Retail Banker International Asia Trailblazer Awards 2023 in Singapore.  BDO’s institutional approach to sustainability, pioneering sustainable finance of renewable energy projects, green buildings and initiatives anchored on United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals were the Bank’s key differentiators that led to this recognition.

BDO’s announcement of its Energy Transition Finance Statement last year reinforced the Bank’s commitment to financing the transition to a low-carbon, environmentally responsible and socially inclusive economy.  This was in support of the 2015 Paris Accord and the Philippines’ nationally determined contribution of a 70 per cent reduction in and avoidance of greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.

The prestigious award ceremony recognizes the innovative strategies and excellent performance of leading retail banks and consumer finance companies in the Asia-Pacific region.  It also brings together the most senior retail banking executives, vendors, and other key industry stakeholders across Asia.

“We remain committed in embedding sustainability principles in the way we do business from our business operations to risk management to corporate governance as we continue to grow and generate long-term value for all our stakeholders.” said Nestor V. Tan, President and CEO of BDO Unibank.

BDO is the country’s largest bank in terms of total assets, loans, deposits and trust funds under management. The Bank has the country’s largest distribution network, with over 1,600 consolidated operating branches and more than 4,600 ATMs nationwide, and has 16 international offices in Asia, Europe, North America and the Middle East. The Bank also offers extensive digital banking solutions to make banking easier, faster, and more secure for its clients.

Apart from Retail Banker International Asia Trailblazer Awards, BDO received a Platinum Award for Excellence in Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) for the 13th straight year at The Asset Awards in Hong Kong. BDO also won the Best Sustainability Bond for Financial Institution in the Philippines at The Asset Triple A Country Awards for Sustainable Finance.  This award was for the P52.7 billion ASEAN sustainability bond, the largest ESG-related bond offering from a non-sovereign Philippine issuer.

For the second consecutive year, BDO was named Top Sustainability Advocate in Asia and Industry Champion of the Year at the 2022 Asia Corporate Excellence & Sustainability (ACES) Awards in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.|-BNN
