BALAYAN, Batangas – WHEN a political leader finished his or her term and the spouse is elected to the position vacated, continuity of services, in some rare cases cannot be underestimated.
This is the scenario in western part of Batangas, when Congressman Eric Buhain was elected in 2022 elections and interit the position vacated by his wife, former Congresswoman Eileen who served for three consecutive terms, Cong. Eric did not just fill up the gap. He have curved his own style of continuing the programs started by his wife Eileen, and initiated other new programs and advocacies.
He proved to his constituents that he is the best man to serve as Congressman of the First District of Batangas; delivered countless projects benefitting all sectors of West Batangas.
On the first day set by Comelec for the filing of Certificate of Candidacy (COC), Cong. Eric is the first incumbent Congressman to formally seek a bid for reelection.
In 2021, then third termer Congresswoman Eileen Ermita-Buhain broke the tradition of passing elective position to blood members of the family and accompanied her husband Eric Buhain in filing the latter’s COC. Cong. Eric run against Eileen’s sister. Last Tuesday, former Cong. Eileen once again accompanied her husband Cong. Eric.
Also joining the couple are the Nacionalista Party contenders for the 2 seats of Members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan – incumbent Board Member Armie Bausas who’s seeking reelection, and a new blood, Dra. Anna Rosales-Santos who will seek the position to be vacated by 3rd termer Board Member Carlo Roman ‘Junjun’ Rosales of Lemery.
Not only that Cong Eric has implemented so many projects for the West Batangas, but he has also ensure the promotion of political stability in the first district. As the district chair of Nacionalista Party, he ensures that mutual respect among local leaders are being observed. Last September 7, Cong. Eric and Calaca city mayor Nas Ona spearheaded the peaceful NP-Calaca Chapter party convention.
Meanwhile, the NP will have a complete line-up for local positions in the first district, composed of Balayan, Calaca, Calatagan, Lemery, Lian, Nasugbu, Taal and Tuy, except for the town of Calatagan where they recognize their local alliance with incumbent Mayor Oliver Palacio.|
