LIPA City – INAASAHANG uusad na sa malapit na hinaharap ang election protest at recount ng mga boto sa pagka-alkalde sa lungsod na ito na siyang magbibigay-linaw sa tunay na resulta ng nakalipas na May 13, 2019 National and Local Elections.

Ito’y matapos ipalabas ng Commission on Elections (COMELEC) – Second Division ang kautusan na nagbubukas ng pinto para umusad ang Election Protest Case (EPC) No. 2019-003 na isinampa ni Gng. Bernadette P. Sabili, tumakbo sa pagka-alkalde sa ilalim ng Nacionalist People’s Coalition (NPC), bilang protestant, laban kay Mayor Eric B. Africa, tumakbo sa ilalim ng Nacionalista Party, bilang protestee.

Isinasaad sa Unanimous ORDER ng Comelec na may petsang Agosto 30, 2019 na may tamang FORM and SUBSTANCE ang petisyon ni Sabili alinsunod sa hinihingi ng Comelec Resolution No. 8804 (Comelec Rules on Procedure on Disputes in an Automated Election System).

Ayon pa sa nasabing Order, “The recount proceedings will determine if the claim of the protestant that she obtained the plurality of votes is true. For the protestee, the recount proceedings could cement his authority as the duly elected Mayor of Lipa City, as the clouds of doubt on his legitimacy to the position would be cleared.”

Matatandaang idineklara ng City Board of Canvassers bilang alkalde si Africa matapos makakuha ng kabuuang boto na 78,109 kumpara kay Sabili na nakakuha ng 76,511 boto. Sa tala ng Comelec, lumamang si Africa ng 1,598 boto. Ang Lungsod ng Lipa ay may kabuuang 200,706 rehsitradong botante, at 162,042 nito ay nakaboto noong Mayo 13. Batay sa Certificate of Canvass, ang naitalang lamang ni Africa kay Sabili ay katumbas ng 0.79% ng bilang ng rehistradong botante at 0.98% naman ng mga botanteng nakaboto noong nagdaang eleksyon.

Sa isang panayam, sinabi ni Sabili na umaasa siyang magtutuluy-tuloy na ang proseso ng recount upang once and for all ay mabigyang hustisya ang anumang naging usapin sa nagdaang halalan at madetermina kung anong tunay na nangyari sa pagboto ng mga Lipeno.|Balikas News Network
