THE family of the late Mayor Antonio Halili welcome the ‘new developments’ in the killing of their patriarch following the testimony of former Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) general manager Royina Garma linking a police officer to the said incident on July 1, 2018.
“I will still have to consult our family and also our lawyers. Nevertheless, it’s a welcome development for the family, specifically as to the reason behind the assassination of my father, Mayor Antonio Halili. We will hold off on reaching a definite conclusion until we receive more evidence,” Mark Halili, the son of the slain mayor said in a statement.
The younger Halili said he is still confident that some good news will develop, six (6) years after the still unidentified assailant killed his father.
His statement continued: “I still have complete and utter confidence in our police force.
I have had many dialogues with our PNP Regional Director, PNP Provincial Director and our Chief of Police, and I believe they have very good plans and strategies especially for the election period. I have given to our police force entirely the preservation of my personal safety. Ultimately, I am very hopeful that the PNP will be the leading agency in delivering justice to my father.
Our family wants to express our gratitude to the Quad Committee of the lower Congress for bringin in new leads and hopefully new evidence in finding the truth that my family has been looking for.
Finally, we request the support of all relevant authorities, including the PNP, NBI, and especially President Bongbong Marcos, so we can move forward from this difficult chapter in our lives.”
Mayor Halili was attending the weekly Flag Raising Ceremony with the rest of the employees of the city government of Tanauan on that fateful morning of July 1, 2018.
But when the national anthem reached the line “Ang bituin at araw nyang kalian pa ma’y di magdidilim, lupa ng…” a sound of of a firing gun was heard and a commotion followed with Mayor Thony crawling to the ground.
He was rushed to C.P. Reyes Hospital and Medical Center where he expired on that same day.|
