BANGA, Aklan—The Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST) excelled in the 13th PEARS PASUC VI EMC Annual Regional Symposium from November 5-7, 2024, held at Aklan State University, by clinching awards in the paper and poster presentations. This year’s theme, “Sustaining Communities Through Innovation: Advancing Extension Practices Across Sectors for Resilient and Inclusive Development,” set a vibrant stage for inspiring discussions and presentations focused on fostering community resilience.

From 22 entries, ISUFST earned the second runner-up award in the poster presentation category for their project, “Zero to Action: Assessing the Effectiveness of Proposal Writeshop and Implementation of Buligan Ta Ka Project.” This initiative, authored by ISUFST professors Joana Paula Biñas, Stephen Raymund Jinon, and Michelle Bales, alongside President Nordy Siason, falls under Cluster 3: Education, Culture, Social Science, and Behavioral Sciences. This recognition is a testament to the university’s unwavering commitment to enhancing educational practices and empowering educators through innovative research.

ISUFST also excelled in the Engineering, Smart Analytics, and ICT Cluster, clinching the top two positions in the extension project category. The project “Transforming Social Welfare: Assessing the Impact of the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation Management System (AICS-MS) in San Enrique, Iloilo, Philippines,” led by professors Wenda Panes, Allan Dave Tagacay, and Miguel Palmares III, secured first runner-up. Meanwhile, the project “Computer Utilization and Technology Transfer Endeavors (CompUTTE)” by professors Wenda Panes, Dave Allan Tagacay, and Analiza Alingalan won second runner-up. Both initiatives are designed to assist partner institutions in digitizing their systems and processes, promoting sustainability, environmental friendliness, and efficiency.

Dr. Joana Paula Biñas, the director of the Extension Services and Development Office at ISUFST, shared her thoughts on the achievement: “Winning this award is more than just recognition; it’s about the impact we can create in our communities. Our project aims to empower teachers with the skills they need to foster meaningful change. It reinforces our mission to ensure that quality education reaches everyone, particularly those who need it most.”

The symposium served as a vital platform for participants to share innovative ideas and best practices, enhancing collaboration among state universities in the region. ISUFST’s impressive achievements reflect its dedication to sustainable development and community engagement, solidifying its role as a leader in education and extension services.

“Together, we are not just presenting ideas; we are building a future where every community thrives through collaboration and innovation,” Dr. Biñas added, capturing the spirit of the event.
