Oil tanker with 1.4 million liters oil capsizes; 1 crew still missing

A Philippine-flagged Motor Tanker (MT) Terra Nova capsized and eventually submerged at 3.6 nautical miles east off Lamao Point, Limay, Bataan, at around 1:10AM today, 25 July 2024, the Philippine Coastt Guard reported.

PCG Spokesperson, CG Rear Admiral Armando Balilo, shared the PCG continues to investigate if there was an existing weather disturbance in the vicinity waters when the maritime incident occurred.

The distressed vessel was carrying 1.4 million liters of industrial fuel oil (IFO) intewnded to be delivered at the Port of Iloilo but was hammered by gigantic waves brought by the Typhoon Monsoon and the exiting typhoon #CarinaPH.

Balilo also said still one of the 17 crew on board went missing while four (4) of the 16 rescued individuals are already receiving further medical attention.

Meanwhile, BRP Melchora Aquino (MRRV-9702) searches for the last missing crew; while PCG Commandant, CG Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan, has ordered the conduct of an investigation regarding the maritime incident.|
