BATANGAS City — After nine (9) months of rolling out the Master of Disaster (MOD) board game across 16 schools in Batangas City, Shell Pilipinas Corporation Master of Disaster program culminated its first run last Friday, September 6, 2024 at the Schools Division Office (SDO) in Batangas City.

This significant gathering was attended by representatives from the participating schools, and members of the Pilipinas Shell Foundation Inc. and Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation (ASSIST), Shell Pilipinas Corpo-ration’s implementing partner.

The event was also graced by notable figures, including Mr. Francis Macatulad, Program Director of ASSIST, who opened the event by acknowledging the contributions of the participants.

Batangas City Vice Mayor Alyssa Cruz-Atienza also ex-pressed her gratitude to the partnership of Shell Pilipinas Corporation and ASSIST for selecting Batangas City to hold its series of rollouts, highlighting its role in enhancing children’s disaster preparedness aware-ness.

Selected teachers from the participating schools shared their unique experiences with the board game’s rollout in their respective schools, citing that students enjoyed playing MOD and will continue to engage with it during their free time. To conclude the activity, Mr. Serge Bernal announced the continuation of ASSIST’s partnership with Shell Pilipinas Corporation to have a second batch of rollouts in Batangas City and expand the initiative’s reach to Cagayan De Oro.

The SDO of Batangas City also supports the MOD Board game, which supports its school curriculum by further empha-sizing disaster preparedness lessons in its school subjects.

MOD is a disaster prepared-ness game which is an original initiative of ASSIST. Aimed at children ages 9 and above, the board game addresses the vulnerability of the Philippines to natural disasters such as earthquakes, typhoons, and teaches kids critical skills such as the value of helping others and how to respond to each disaster. Through the partnership, Shell Pilipinas Corporation success-fully reached 8,100 students across 16 elementary schools and trained more than 300 teachers on MOD and disaster preparedness.| Balikas News Team
