Malabanban Sur Farmers’ Association (FA) of Candelaria, Quezon, Sariaya Corn FA of Quezon, and San Pablo City Corn FA of Laguna received bags of corn seeds from the Department of Agriculture IV-CALABARZON (DA-4A) on April 28.

The turnover was led by OIC-Regional Executive Regional Director Vilma M. Dimaculangan and OIC-Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulations and Regional Corn Banner Program Coordinator Avelita M. Rosales.

Malabanban Sur FA, Sariaya Corn FA, and San Pablo City Corn FA received 300 kilograms of hybrid glutinous corn seeds, 96 bags of yellow corn seeds, and 100 bags of hybrid yellow corn seeds, respectively.

The distribution of corn inputs is part of the Corn Model Farm Project, which aims to increase the production of corn, being the second most important crop in the country.

Under the said project, the corn seeds distributed are expected to yield at least 3-mt/hectare for white corn and 5-mt/hectare for yellow corn. All proceeds of the harvested corn crops shall be used to buy additional inputs that can be utilized by the farmers for their next planting season.

Aside from corn seeds, all of the abovementioned FAs were also given bags of complete fertilizer, bags of urea fertilizers, and bottles of insecticide.

“Kami po ay nagpapasalamat.Tunay nga po na lahat ng galing sa taas [government] ay nadadama ng farmers. Sana ay magtuloy-tuloy ang ganitong mga naipamamahagi dahil lahat naman po ng mga ito ay naibibigay sa farmers,” Sariaya Corn FA President Domingo Marasigan said.| – Reina Beatriz P. Peralta
