Quezon Huskers reign MPBL’s South Division; Zamboanga prevails over Batangas City

Quezon Huskers remain as the team to beat now at the Southern Division of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) with the Gensan Warriors recorded a five wins in a row after a narrow win over the Marikina Shoemasters. Relatively, Gensan Warriors moved up to second spot behind the Quezon Huskers.

In this week’s marquee matchup, Zamboanga Family’s Brand Sardines stopped the Batangas City Embassy Chill’s five game winning run in their first meeting since the South finals last year.

The reigning MVP stamps his class on this South division finals rematch as he tallies a 19 points and 10 assists to power the Zamboanga Family’s Brand Sardines to an 81-74 triumph over the Batangas City Embassy Chill.

But it’s not an easy battle for Zamboanga Family’s Brand Sardines as Batangas Embassy Chill even inched two (2) points over the Mindanaoan Team at the end of the of the 2nd quarter with the score 49-47.

Zamboanga Family’s Brand Sardines and Batangas City Embassy Chill battled to three hard fought playoff games last year with Zamboanga coming out on top. They meet again for the first time since that memorable series with Zamboanga parading a much stronger squad and Batangas boasting of a more cohesive unit.

And as noted above, Zamboanga Family’s Brand Sardines prevailed.

Meanwhile, still for the South Division, the Mindoro Disiplinados also make waves by notching their first win of the season at the expense of Sarangani Marlins.

Up North, the Pasay Voyagers keep their winning streak going with another victory at home at the expense of the Laguna Krah Asia Heroes. Facing giant killers Caloocan at home, the San Juan Knights responded to the challenge to turn back the Bayang Kankaloo. Some interesting matchups are still on tap this week and the coming week towards the finals.
