DOST-Calabarzon launches second Mini Science Centrum in the region

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST)  – CALABARZON will be conducting the Deployment and Launching of the Mini Science Centrum at the Cesar C. Tan Memorial National High School in Quezon, Quezon on April 5, 2024. This is the second Mini Science Centrum in the CALABARZON region following the first one established in Polillo, Quezon last September 12, 2023.

The said launching is part of DOST-CALABARZON’s Enhanced Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology (ECEST) for the Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs) which aims to empower economically challenged communities by providing science and technology interventions that address their specific needs in areas such as health, education, disaster risk reduction, climate change mitigation, and economic development. 

Key officials were also invited and are expected to grace the event and deliver their messages of support including DOST Secretary Renato Solidum, Jr.; DOST Undersecretary Sancho Mabborang of the DOST Regional Operations; Prof. Fortunato T. de la Peña, Chairman of the Philippine Foundation for Science and Technology (PFST) and former DOST Secretary; Regional Director Emelita P. Bagsit of DOST-CALABARZON; Cong. Keith Micah D.L. Tan; Hon. Gov. Angelina “Helen” D.L. Tan of Quezon Province; Regional Director Alberto T. Escobarte of the Department of Education (DepEd) CALABARZON; Dr. Rommel C. Bautista, Schools Division Superintendent of DepEd Quezon; and Provincial Director Maria Esperanza Jawili of DOST-Quezon. 

Aside from the launching activity, a visit and monitoring of DOST-CALABARZON’s following projects in Perez, Alabat, and Quezon, Quezon will also be held on April 5-6, 2024:

1. Establishment of Fish Processing Facility in the Municipality of Perez

2. Establishment of Buffalo Milk Production Facility in the Municipality of Quezon

3. Improvement of Process and Product Quality of Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) Producers of Alabat Island VCO Producers Association

4. Improvement of Process and Quality of Cassava Flakes/Crackers and Banana Chips of Samahan ng Kababaihan ng Alabat Para sa Pangkabuhayan (SANGKAP)

5. Upgrading the Production Process and Products of Sili Growers Association

6. Establishment of Embryo-Cultured Makapuno (ECM) Island in the Municipalities of Alabat, Quezon, and Perez in Quezon Province

7. Deployment of AIS equipped Fiberglass Rescue Boats 

8. Upgrading Of Production Facility and Equipment of Kingflute Philippines, Inc.

9. Deployment of AIS equipped Fiberglass Rescue Boats
